This February I’ve joined The Next Ride, an annual cycling event raising money for Israeli amputees who have lost so much yet refuse to give up. The Next Ride is part of The Next Step, the sole non-profit in Israel established to support individuals with limb loss. Many of the amputees being helped have suffered life altering injuries through dramatic events, including terrorist attacks, illnesses, and injuries sustained while serving in the Israel Defense Forces.
Since 2012, The Next Step has provided its services to over 4,600 Israelis, with many receiving prosthetic fittings for complex amputations. These are high-cost procedures, averaging over $50,000 and sometimes exceeding $100,000, far beyond the support provided by the Israeli healthcare system.
As war continues, the need for these services has intensified, and so has the need for funding. New amputees are grappling with traumatic injuries, while many in the existing TNS community are facing a surge in PTSD. The Next Step is a crucial organization helping these brave souls fight to regain independence and reclaim a future. I’m riding to stand with them in that fight, to raise the funds that will provide the care, support, and hope they desperately need.
